Missing retention/data
Don't despair. It's normal to lack historical data if you've just launched. Here’s how you can still make a strong impression on investors:
👽 Find alternative metrics that prove future retention will be strong. Start with qualitative evidence. Showcase early user love and feedback. Highlight any glowing testimonials that show users are thrilled with your product.
🪐 Next, focus on quantitative evidence. Track key usage actions that indicate users have had their "aha" moment. For example, in Slack’s case, a key metric might be users sending 30 messages in more than two groups. Find your version of this metric and show how many customers hit that mark.
🌪 Show usage expansion. Demonstrate that engagement is growing over time. If users love your product enough to refer others, highlight those referrals. Track how many new users come from existing ones.
🤳🏻 Look for early network effects. Highlight any signs of organic growth or word-of-mouth referrals. If people are talking about your product and spreading the word, that’s a strong positive indicator.
Even without historical data, these alternative metrics can prove your product's potential for retention and growth.
